I. The thing is, cách dùng như adv (informal - chỉ dùng trong speaking) 

= You say the thing is to introduce an explanation, comment, or opinion that relates to something that has just been said. The thing is is often used to identify a problem relating to what has just been said.

IELTS TUTOR lưu ý:

• "The thing is" đóng vai trò như adv, tức là sẽ đứng ở các vị trí linh động như adv (trạng từ) mà IELTS TUTOR đã giới thiệu (thường đứng ở ĐẦU CÂU & GIỮA CÂU)

• 'What does your market research consist of?'—'Well, the thing is, it depends on our target age group.' 
• I've got onto a course. The thing is, I don't know whether I want to do it any more
• The thing is, the shops close early on Sundays.
• I agree with your point, but the thing is, if we agree to increase spending for education, then all sorts of other public utilities will go underfunded as a result.

II. The thing is mang nghĩa "chuyện là thế này"

• The thing is, my car broke down, so how can I drive? (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: ý của câu này có nghĩa là vấn đề là xe tôi bị hư, như vậy thì làm sao mà lái được)
