- Overview questions là các dạng câu hỏi đòi hỏi thí sinh hiểu sự tổng quan hay còn gọi là ý chính như Cách dùng danh từ "overview" tiếng anh IELTS TUTOR đã hướng dẫn (Overview questions, also known as global questions, test your ability to identify' the main ideas of the whole reading passage or paragraphs in the passage.

- Dạng 1: Matching paragraph headings questions: hay còn gọi là matching heading đòi hỏi chọn trong những heading được cho sẵn heading nào phù hợp với từng đoạn (require you to sum up the meaning of a paragraph in order to match it to a bank of possible headings. You may be asked to match every paragraph or section of the passage or just a selection of paragraphs)
- Dạng 2: Multiple choice paragraph headings questions: trong dạng này thường là câu hỏi trắc nghiệm yêu cầu lựa chọn main idea của cả bài hoặc một đoạn nhỏ

- Đọc kĩ câu hỏi & gạch chân keywords (Read the list of headings and underline key words. Make sure you know which paragraphs or sections you have to sum up)
- Thường sẽ có câu ví dụ nên gạch trong list vì main idea của đoạn này không thể là main idea của đoạn khác được (Cross out the heading which was already used as an example)

- Khi nghi ngờ 1 heading là đáp án cần đọc kĩ (scan) để chắc chắn đó là đáp án đúng
III. Lưu ý dạng "overview questions"

- Các từ nổi bật như tiêu đề, các chữ in nghiêng in đậm nên chú ý (Titles, headings, subheadings, full name of author, notes, glossary, any print in italics or bold type, underlined words / phrases, illustrations, diagrams, etc. can help you quickly grasp the general ideas of the passage)
- IELTS READING thường sử dụng paraphrase giữa câu hỏi & passage ít khi nào giống hoàn toàn (The options that use the exact wording in the passage are usually the wrong answers)
- Đáp án đúng sẽ là main idea của đoạn chứ không phải chỉ là 1 ý như dạng Matching information (Make sure the heading you have chosen sums up the entire paragraph and not just one idea within it)
- Dạng này cần tập trung tìm main idea của đoạn (If you have to sum up the entire passage, focus on the topic sentence of each paragraph, skim quickly through the details and choose the best heading)
- Không dừng lại 1 câu quá lâu (Should you become unsure concerning the heading, proceed to the next paragraph so you won't unnecessarily consume your remaining time)
- Không nên để trống (Never leave blanks unanswered)
